More than 150 attend Bay Area regional office open house to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Disability Rights California
Disability Rights California's Bay Area regional office in downtown Oakland was brimming over on March 15, with representatives of government agencies, and social justice, disability rights and community organizations. Speaker pro Tempore of the California State Assembly, Sally J. Lieber, presented a framed Assembly resolution recognizing the “tremendous value” of our work over the last three decades. The City Council of Oakland also issued a statement of appreciation and support for our services.
The celebration was an opportunity to recognize our partners in outreach to the community. Two groups receiving Disability Rights California awards were the plaintiffs and pro bono counsel in the Laguna Honda case that was recently settled with the city and county of San Francisco. Plaintiffs Mark Chambers and Mary Thomas were recognized for their hard work, and Henry Su of Howrey LLP, received an award for his firm’s superb efforts on the case. Family Bridges, a community organization that serves the Bay Area’s Chinese population, received an award for its collaboration with us to provide training to its senior adult day programs.
